Die Kinder einer Grundschulklasse erfahren in kurzen Spielszenen und einfachen Experimenten, wie wichtig ihre Augen zur Orientierung in der Umwelt sind. Sie spielen „Blinde Kuh“ und suchen in der Dunkelheit ein Fahrrad. In Realfilm- und Trickfilmsequenzen erklärt der Film den Bau des Auges und den Sehvorgang. Einfache Experimente, die die Kinder selbst durchführen, machen deutlich, was Licht ist. Mit einem Spiegel fangen die Kinder das Sonnenlicht ein, lenken es um und blenden ihre Freunde. Durch eine Lupe werden die Sonnenstrahlen gebündelt. Der Film zeigt auch, wie sich Blinde in ihrer Umgebung orientieren. Am Ende des Films stehen verschiedene Szenen aus dem Freizeit- und Arbeitsbereich, die deutlich machen, wo Gefahr für die Augen besteht und wie wichtig es ist, diese Sinnesorgane zu schützen.
